Looking Forward to a full week in 1st grade!

Hello Families,
   Just a few notes!

1. Our new spelling program begins on Monday. If your student is in the "Magic Spelling" group they will receive a sheet on Monday from Mrs. Combes.

2. New Scholastic Book orders went home yesterday. If you'd like to order, please do so online and use our class code KGKTL.

3. Valentine's Day will be here before we know it! Please see post below for the student names and instructions.

4. Wednesday at 7:30 is "Breakfast and Books!" Students must have an adult present to participate, this should be a great event.

5. Wednesday evening is the Inspirations Arts Showcase! We had 5 students from our class participate. Well done!

6. Mark your calendar, Feb. 19th for Hawthorn Literacy Night.

7. Thanks for all you do! I have amazing parent helpers who help me grade, file, copy, tutor, and more! I am always open to additional help; please let me know if you are interested.

8. Don't forget to log student reading onto Road To Success. A minimum of 20 mins. a night is required to get full homework credit and get a sticker on the homework folder.

Have a great weekend! This class truly rocks!

January to February

Hi Families,
This week has flown by! I hope you all enjoy the long weekend....students have Friday off, Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day (be sure to ask them what we've learned about Dr. King this week, they are enjoying learning about him) and also on Tuesday for a teacher work day. There will be no new homework next week but please keep logging in reading minutes and review phonograms. I would like all students on at least list 3 by the end of the month (List 3 includes phonograms 40-60).

TOMORROW (Thursday) is a dress down day for 3 or fewer tardies this quarter. I appreciate you helping your student be on time.

Valentine's Day will be here before we know it! We will be having a class party and we will be making collection boxes in class during our party. Please bring a Valentine for every student in the class. Here is the class list: (There are 27 students)

The administration asked that we clarify the boot/shoe policy. Snow boots are not allowed in class but they are at recess. Your student can wear snow boots to school and then change into school shoes. They can put on the boots at recess time. Fashion boots (that aren't snow boots) can be worn anytime.

Thank you for all your support! I am seeing the transition from 1st graders to 2nd graders happening already....we are getting there!

Let's become Writers!

Hello Families,
It is so great to be back in the classroom with your students! We are back it at it with reading, writing, math, spelling, Social Studies, and more! Our unit this month focuses on different cultures and how different groups express their ideas, feelings, and beliefs. We are really kicking up our writing study this month and just finished editing our "Five Senses of Winter" drafts. Please help your student practice writing in fun, creative ways. Anything they write at home, I am always happy to have them share with the class. Try a new recipe creation, a journal, a silly story, a letter to a friend, a comic book, or 1st graders who like a challenge love creating their own "chapter" books. I am so excited to watch them blossom into great writers!
